What is the Gospel?

The gospel is the good news about what Jesus Christ has done to reconcile sinners to God. Here is the whole story:

1. The one and only Triune God– Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit- who is holy, made us in His image to know Him (Gen. 1:26-28).
2. We sinned, (disobeyed/fell short in every sense) cutting ourselves off from Him (Gen. 3; Rom. 3:23).
3. God’s Love in Christ: In His great love, God sent His own and only Son Jesus as Saviour to rescue His people from their enemies—most significantly, their sins (Ps. 2; Luke 1:67-79).
4. Jesus’s Sacrifice and Resurrection: Jesus, our priest and sacrifice, lived a perfect life, died on the cross to fulfil the law of God, and took on the punishment for sin, which we ought to have suffered, but could not. He rose again, showing that God accepted His sacrifice, exhausting God’s wrath against us (Mark 10:45; John 1:14; Heb. 7:26; Rom. 3:21-26; Acts 2:24).
5. Our Call to Respond: Jesus calls us to repent and trust Him for forgiveness through His work on the cross- His sacrificial death on our behalf. When we do, we are born into new and eternal life with God (Acts 17:30; John 3:16).
